First the base from Syd Mead. There are a lot of drawing from him to choose from, but eventually I settled on this piece below, mostly because I liked the use of a limited color pallet (only primaries and grey scale) to evoke a mood.
Like all of my drawings, I started off with a sketch. Not much to look at, but I got the basic down.
Then I added the basic colors, and light values. I think I could have stopped here. But, nah...
Smoothing the harsh lines.
Adding background colors and details to the form.
And finally! Tada! The finished piece with a darker background.
Next time, I think I want to try a more environmental price to recreate! But all in all, I had a lot of fun, and I believe I learned a few things as well. I found it really interesting to limit my color pallet to recreate the primary color scheme, and I hope my interpretation gives it a more modern flair. The dark background was a last minute adjustment, but I sort of love it.
Welp. I'm done for now. See you next time!
